Preview of Season Highlights

The 2026/27 season will once again see Andreas Schager take on major Wagner roles at leading international theatres: at the Opéra national de Paris in October, he will appear as Siegfried in Götterdämmerung under the baton of Pablo Heras-Casado, directed by Calixto Bieito followed by a new production of the same work at the Royal Opera House in London under the baton of Antonio Pappano, in a production directed by Barrie Kosky. As part of this year’s Ring Cycles in Paris, he will return as Siegfried in Siegfried and Götterdämmerung. Between these major Wagner roles, Schager will perform Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin at the Teatro Zarzuela in Madrid alongside Guillermo García Calvo, before giving another recital in Budapest with Lidia Baich on violin and Donka Angatscheva on piano. In Berlin, Schager returns as Tannhäuser under Christian Thielemann in the production by Sasha Waltz, before taking on the role of Tristan once again in Vienna under Alexander Soddy and directed by Calixto Bieito. At the Teatro Real in Madrid, he will be singing the title role of Tannhäuser under Gustavo Gimeno, directed by David Hermann. The season is rounded off by Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra under Gustavo Gimeno, as well as Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde at the Leipzig Opera under Ivan Repušić, directed by Enrico Lübbe.
