Boris Orlob

Managing Director

Born in Karlsruhe, Germany, Boris Orlob grew up in various German cities, including Wuppertal, Gevelsberg and Beilstein, before moving to Barcelona, where he completed his Abitur at the Deutsche Schule Barcelona.

After his first ambitious attempts as a drummer in a hard rock band, Boris Orlob discovered his enduring passion for opera and singing at an early age. His strong interest in culture led him both to the major opera houses in Stuttgart, Barcelona and Munich and to rock concerts in these cities. After spending a year at the Universitat de Barcelona, where he further developed his Spanish and immersed himself in history and culture, he moved to Berlin. At the Freie Universität Berlin, he studied Business Administration, Media Studies and Cultural Management.

Already during his studies, Boris Orlob gained his first professional experience through various internships at the Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and the Staatstheater Wiesbaden, as well as through work in public relations and for various newspapers with a focus on cultural affairs.

From 1994 onwards, Boris Orlob worked as Head of the Singers’ Department at the concert agency Matthias Vogt in Munich. In 1997, he founded his own agency in Berlin, Boris Orlob Management, which he now runs together with his sister, Natascha van Randenborgh. The agency represents a wide range of singers, stage directors and conductors who regularly appear on major stages worldwide.

His international background is also reflected in his language skills. In addition to English and French, which he learned at school, he speaks fluent Spanish, which he further developed during his years in Barcelona, as well as Italian. His close connection to Italy has also grown through his Italian wife and numerous stays in the country.

Alongside his work as an artist manager and Managing Director, Boris Orlob is involved in various international professional associations and educational programmes. He is Deputy Chairman of the IAMA (International Artist Managers’ Association) and the DOKA (Deutschsprachige Opern- und Konzertagenturen). He has also given lectures at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin, the HMDK Stuttgart and the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe. He is a regular guest at the Internationale Meisterakademie Neumarkt and contributes to the Bertelsmann Stiftung’s “Neue Stimmen – Creating Careers” programme for young, aspiring singers. He is also an advisor to Mascarade Opera in Florence.

In his private life, Boris Orlob is also closely connected to various forms of art and culture. He finds a balance in football, both on and off the pitch, as well as in maintaining close, long-standing friendships within and beyond the cultural sphere.
