Biography

Born in Tripoli (Lebanon), the tenor studied piano and singing at the National Conservatory of Music in Beirut. He then completed a master's degree in opera and musical theatre at the Mozarteum in Salzburg.
Permanent engagements took him from the opera studio of the Hamburg State Opera to the Stadttheater Bremerhaven, the Oldenburg State Theatre and the National Theatre Mannheim. In addition, he made guest appearances at the Berlin State Opera, the Hamburg State Opera, the Kiel Theatre and the state theatres in Kassel, Darmstadt and Mainz. As part of a tour with the CFPL, he performed in Rennes, Marseilles, Reims, Toulouse, Montpellier and other French cities. Further engagements took him to the Gothenburg Konserthuset, Teatro Real Madrid, Shanghai Grand Theatre, Philharmonie de Paris, Festspielhaus Baden-Baden and the Berlin Philharmonie, among others.

He has worked with renowned conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Valery Gergiev, Simone Young, Dan Ettinger, Kent Nagano, Alessandro De Marchi, Lorenzo Viotti, Alexander Soddy, Stefan Soltesz and Barbara Hannigan, as well as directors such as Hans Neuenfels, Tatjana Gürbaca, Achim Freyer, Lydia Steier, Harry Kupfer, Tilman Knabe, Sasha Waltz and Markus Bothe.
 
The tenor's opera repertoire includes Conte Almaviva, Ferrando, Don Ottavio, Arbace, Basilio, Alfred in Die Fledermaus, Camille de Rosillon, Boni, Male Chorus in The Rape of Lucretia, Swan in Carmina Burana, Nerone in Handel's Agrippina and Oronte in Alcina, Truffaldino in The Love for Three Oranges, Marquis in Prokofiev's The Gambler and 1st Jew in Salome. 

Ziad Nehme has a particular focus on contemporary repertoire. He has performed in world premieres by composers such as Lucia Ronchetti (Esame di mezzanotte), Martin Matalon (L'ombre de Venceslao) and Gordon Kampe (Anoia), as well as interpreting works by Brett Dean, Giacinto Scelsi and Georges Aperghis.

In recent seasons, Ziad Nehme has appeared in Lucerne at the Attacco! opera gala, as Lenski in Eugene Onegin, as Oronte in Alcina, as the Steward in Der Rosenkavalier and as Ygen in Revue des Folies - Docteur Ox. He has also appeared at the Hamburg State Opera as Nils/Kannst du pfeifen, Johanna?, Contadino in Luisa Miller, Joe in The Girl of the West, as well as roles in Salome and Parsifal, and as a policeman in Wertmüller's Echo 72 at the Hanover State Opera.

In the 2025/26 season, Ziad Nehme will make his debut at the Grand Théâtre de Genève with various roles in Frank Zappa's 200 Motels.
