Biography
Ric Furman began his musical training at the College Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati and continued his studies at Western Illinois University. Early engagements took him to renowned houses such as Seattle Opera, Virginia Opera, Portland Opera, and the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra. In 2014, he was one of nine finalists at the International Wagner Singing Competition and was awarded a prize by the New York City Wagner Society.From the 2015/16 season, Furman held a fixed ensemble position at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, where he developed a diverse repertoire. He captivated audiences as Dimitri (Boris Godunow), Alvaro (La forza del destino), Rodolfo (La Bohème), Cavaradossi (Tosca), Pollione (Norma), the Emperor (Die Frau ohne Schatten), and Siegmund (Die Walküre). Since then, he has worked internationally as a freelance artist.
In recent seasons, Ric Furman has established himself at the Magdeburg Theatre, where he made his debut as the Prince in Rusalka in 2017 and later returned in other roles such as Siegmund and Anatol. There he also appeared for the first time as Peter Grimes, a role he also sang at the Augsburg State Theatre.
He appeared as Erik at the Budapest Wagner Days and as Boris at the Scottish Opera in Glasgow. He also performed in Mahler's 8th Symphony with the Orchestre National de Lille and appeared as Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos and Matteo in Arabella at renowned German opera houses. He toured the United Kingdom with Opera North as Bacchus. Highlights of his career also include appearances at the Bayreuth Festival and the Komische Oper Berlin.
Ric Furman appeared in the new production of Die Walküre at the Theater Basel, as Florestan in Fidelio in Bari and in two concert performances of Die Walküre under Kent Nagano in Amsterdam and Cologne. Other highlights include his debut as Tristan at Theater Lübeck, appearances as Siegmund in Die Walküre in Beijing with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra under Petr Popelka, and his return to Theater Basel for the revival of Die Walküre.
In the 2025/26 season, Ric Furman will take on the tenor role in Liszt's Faust Symphony with the Baltic Philharmonic Orchestra in Gdansk. At the Opéra National du Rhin, he will appear as Der Fremde in Das Wunder der Heliane before taking on the role of Tristan in Tristan und Isolde at the International May Festival in Wiesbaden.

American heroic tenor joins BOM
At the beginning of the new year, we welcome Ric Furman, a new important Wagner voice from the USA, to our General Management team.After great success in the USA, Ric Furman has also been pursuing a career in Europe since 2014. In the 2015/16 season, Furman was engaged at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, where he expanded his Wagner and Strauss repertoire in particular. He then worked mainly as a freelancer.
In addition to Siegmund in the new production of Die Walküre at the Basel Theatre under the direction of Jonathan Nott and Benedikt von Peter the tenor has also appeared as Peter Grimes in productions in Magdeburg and Augsburg, as Florestan in Fidelio, as Bacchus in Weimar and in numerous other appearances in European theatres.
The highlight of this season will be two semi-concert performances of Die Walküre under the musicalk direction of Kent Nagano at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Kölner Philharmonie.
