Biography
Born into a musical family, American baritone Kevin Greenlaw has performed throughout the world in a wide variety of repertoire stretching from early baroque all the way towards contemporary. He began his vocal training at the Eastman School of Music in New York and subsequently moved to Europe where he completed his Masters degree in Glasgow at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and later entered the ensemble of the prestigious Paris National Opera. Most recently, In 2021, Rijeka Opera of the Ivan Zajc Croatian National Theatre awarded him the Enrico Caruso Award for best achievement by a guest artist for his portrayal of Germont in Verdi’s La Traviata.Following five years of singing regularly with the Paris National Opera, he joined the ensemble of Theater Dortmund, where he debuted in several landmark baritone roles such as Il Conte in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, Marcello in Puccini’s La Bohème, and the title roles in both Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin.
In 2019 he achieved critical acclaim for his portrayal of the iconic title role, Hamlet, by the French composer Ambroise Thomas with Angers-Nantes Opera. He is also known for his performances of Oreste in Gluck’s Iphigénie en Tauride with Komische Oper Berlin and Opéra National de Lorraine and as Pelléas at Glyndebourne, Opéra National de Lorraine, Opéra de Rennes and as a cover with the Metropolitan Opera as well as Chorèbe in Berlioz’s Les Troyens with the Festival Amazonas de Ópera in Manaus, Brazil, Danilo in Lehár’s Die Lustige Witwe with the Opéra National de Lorraine, Figaro in Rossini’s Il Barbière di Siviglia with Opera Angers-Nantes, Escamillo in London at the Royal Albert Hall, and Il Conte with Theater St. Gallen, among many others.
Since 2016, Greenlaw has made his home in Helsinki and has debuted at the Finnish National Opera as the Phantom in a new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s world-wide hit, The Phantom of the Opera. On the Finnish classical platform, he has appeared as a guest soloist with many prestigious orchestras such as the Tampere Philharmonic, Turku Philharmonic, and Jyväskylä Sinfonia with conductors such as Leif Segerstam, Santtu-Matias Rouvali, Jaakko Kuusisto and Ville Matvejeff and has particularly enjoyed singing the monumental part of Kullervo in Sibelius’ Kullervo Symphony in Tampere and later in Bilbao.

The Glorious Eight in Savonlinna
To our great delight, this year's Savonlinna Opera Festival features several BOM artists in central roles!Beginning on July 1st with Amy Lane's staging of Gounod's Romeo et Juliette conducted by Yves Abel, Marjukka Tepponen can be seen and heard in the role of Juliette, Arttu Kataja as Capulet, and Kevin Greenlaw takes on the role of Mercutio.
