Biography
British tenor Aaron Godfrey-Mayes is currently a member of the International Opera Studio at the Hamburg State Opera.During the 2023/2024 season Aaron will perform Giuseppe (La Traviata), Parpignol (La Bohème), Un Venditore di Canzonette (Il Tabarro), Ruiz (Il trovatore), Gardist 1 (Manon), Graf Albert (Die tote Stadt), Tenor Soloist (Händel's Factory) and Mère Grenu/Le Patron (Ciboulette).
Aaron was also a member of Royal Academy Opera under the tutelage of singing teacher Mark Wildman and completed his undergraduate and postgraduate degree at the Royal Academy of Music, achieving a first class honours and distinction respectively.
During Aaron’s time at the Royal Academy of Music he was a regular soloist in the Royal Academy of Music/Kohn Foundation Bach Cantata Series performances with Masaaki Suzuki, Philippe Herreweghe and Iain Ledingham. He was also an ABRSM and Norman Ayrton Scholar, received the Kenneth Loveland Bursary and played Flute in Royal Academy Opera’s production of Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Aaron has been awarded 1st prize in the Royal Academy of Music Pavarotti Prize, 3rd prize and the Wil Keune Mozart Prize in the 2022 Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition, the Recital Prize in the David Clover Festival of Music Singers’ Platform and the Nineteenth Century Opera Prize in the National Mozart Singing Competition.
Aaron has played the role of Ramiro (La Cenerentola) with Nevill Holt Opera, Ferrando (Così fan tutte) with the Covent Garden Chamber Orchestra, Wagner/Nereo (Mefistofele) with the Chelsea Opera Group and was also an Alvarez young artist with Garsington Opera in 2019 and 2021.
During the 2021-23 seasons, Aaron was enrolled as a Studio Artist at Mascarade Emerging Artists in Florence, Italy. During Aaron’s time at Mascarade he worked closely with Julia Lynch, regularly took part in concerts at the Palazzo Corsini, performed scenes from Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia and La Cenerentola at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice and played the role of Ali (Adina) at the Rossini in Wildbad Bel Canto Opera Festival.
