Biography

Valentin Ruckebier (*1997 in Wuppertal, Germany) took lessons in violin, piano and composition in Remscheid. He received his first singing lessons at the age of 10. From 2014 to 2023, he studied composition at the Robert Schumann Musikhochschule Düsseldorf with Prof. Manfred Trojahn and Prof. Oliver Schneller. In 2017, he additionally started studying singing in Düsseldorf, first with Prof. Ludwig Grabmeier, later with Prof. Konrad Jarnot.

Ruckebier won the 1st prize at the Bundeswettbewerb Gesang 2022. In 2019, he was a finalist of the Walter und Charlotte Hamel Stiftung competition and received a scholarship of Richard Wagner Verband Wuppertal. Since 2022, he is a member of the Opera Studio at Deutsche Oper am Rhein (basso), where he sang the roles Alessio (La Sonnambula), Sciarrone (Tosca), 2nd armoured man (Magic Flute), Hortensius (La Fille Du Regiment), high priest (Hérodiade) and others. Guest engagements led him to Theater Hagen (Eötvös – Tri Sestry) and Theater Pforzheim (Britten – A Midsummer Night’s Dream). Besides that, he frequently performs as a Lied, oratory and ensemble singer with a particular focus on contemporary music, e.g. he performed Norbert Laufer’s oratory “Der Weise” at Tonhalle Düsseldorf or Luciano Berio’s “Cries of London” at Palais Wittgenstein. In 2021, he gave his debut of Schubert’s “Schöne Müllerin” as the opening concert of the Liedfestival Ruhr.

His compositions have been awarded multiple prizes and won several competitions. They got premiered at numerous festivals and concerts by renowned musicians, ensembles and orchestras, such as MusikFabrik Köln, Augsburger Philharmoniker, Rheinische Philharmonie Koblenz, Kölner Vokalsolisten, tanzhaus nrw or Ensemble notabu Düsseldorf. His opera “The Flight To Egypt” was performed at the Teatro Comunale Luciano Pavarotti Modena, at the Landestheater Linz, and at the Serbian National Theater Novi Sad in 2021 and 2022.
